In the sacrament of the sick, the entire parish community prays for the seriously ill, the sick or infirm, aged and those with emotional stress or illness. Saint Jude has three annual liturgies which include the anointing of the sick. Whether in communal or individual celebrations of the Sacrament, the church prays that the physical and spiritual health of the person be restored. This is not the sacrament of those only who are at the point of death.
Ministry to the Sick
The parish reaches out to those unable to celebrate the Eucharist regularly with the community such as the infirm, the elderly, the critically ill and dying and those who are hospitalized. All are welcome to request communion.

Communal Celebration: Sacrament of the Sick
The Sacrament of the Sick is the Church’s prayer of healing, continuing the concern which our Lord Himself showed for the bodily and spiritual welfare of the sick. It is the Church’s desire that the Sacrament of the Sick be received by anyone suffering from serious illness or weakening condition because of age. Therefore, anyone described here has the right to receive the Sacrament of the Sick:
Those suffering from a terminal illness or those preparing for surgery
Anyone who is under a doctor’s care for any serious reason
Any elderly person who feels the need for the strengthening and healing effects of this sacrament.
When entering church that weekend, if those to be anointed would please come to the front lobby to receive a special name tag. This will facilitate recognition during the laying on of hands and anointing. If parishioners who are homebound wish to come to one of these special liturgies and need a ride, please let us know.
